Conflicts, Cancellations & Missed Exams
Exam Conflicts
A conflict is considered in the following circumstances:
- Two (2) or more exams are scheduled at the same time; having two exams in one day is not considered a conflict.
- Three (3) exams are scheduled on the same calendar day; a calendar day is defined as 00:00-24:00.
Students who have added courses after the examination schedule has been produced may be expected to write more than twice within a calendar day.
In the event of a conflict as defined above, please reach out to the academic department to arrange for an alternative writing date for one of the conflicting exams. When contacting the department, please also copy scheduling@trentu.ca.
Observation of Cultural or Religious Holidays
Students who wish to observe cultural or religious holidays during an examination period must notify the Office of the Registrar in writing by the deadline set in the Academic Calendar (refer to Important Dates). Adjustments and deferrals of examinations are not automatic.
When possible, scheduling will be adjusted to accommodate these dates.
If it is not possible, students must submit a written request to their instructors for alternative arrangements, explaining the reason for the request and including supporting documentation.
Inclement Weather and Exam Cancellations
In the event of inclement weather, students should refer to myTrent for updates.
Cancelled exams will be rescheduled on or before the last date of the exam period. Students should not plan to travel prior to the end of the exam period.
Missed Examinations
Students who miss an examination for reasons beyond their control should consult with their instructor immediately. Personal travel plans are not acceptable reasons for missing exams. Adjustments and deferrals of tests and final examinations are not automatic. Alternate arrangements may be made at the instructor’s discretion provided that the student has supplied supporting documentation. If such arrangements are not possible, students may request aegrotat standing.
