Policing & Community Well-Being (B.A.)

Be Part of The Only Community-Inclusive Policing Program in Canada: Your Career in Policing and Community Well-Being Starts at Trent

Welcome From The Program Coordinator

On behalf of the Policing and Community Well-Being Program, I want to welcome you to Trent Durham. We are thrilled to offer students with a unique degree experience that will no doubt provide our students with the essential skills, knowledge, and competencies to be effective police officers and community leaders.

As modern policing evolves keeping communities safe is no longer achieved through force, but rather through a practice of collaboration and social awareness. In the Policing and Community Well-Being degree, you will explore these practices as well as the economic, social, and cultural features that shape the needs of communities to help empower its citizens, law enforcement, and outreach groups to come together and make a difference. We are pleased to be partnered with community partners across Ontario to provide students with experiential learning opportunities that will not only help students put their course learning into meaningful practice, but it will also give students an edge in the job market by solidifying social networks and enhancing future career development. By enrolling in the Policing and Community Well-Being program, you have opened a door to an exciting future. It is now up to you to make it a reality.

For incoming and new students, I have some practical tips to help you make the most of your time at Trent. Be bold, try new things, explore new ideas and ways of doing things, ask questions, talk to your professors, and most importantly, be gracious and grateful for the opportunities you have to pursue your passions. As program coordinator, I look forward to working directly with you to ensure that the learning experience is enjoyable, meaningful, and importantly relevant to the community-based careers that students will pursue.

If you have any questions regarding the Policing and Community Well-Being program do not hesitate to reach out and contact us at policing@trentu.ca.

Looking forward to working with you,

Dr. Amy Spendik
