Alumni, students, staff, faculty accept the Crush the College Challenge to support the revitalized college system

Once again, the Trent Community came together on Giving Tuesday to celebrate philanthropy on campus. Showcasing their support for the college system, students, staff, faculty, alumni and donors not only met the Crush the College Challenge to raise $75,000 in 25 hours but surpassed it raising $80,275. This national day of giving back also spurred donations for other key Trent initiatives for an impressive Giving Tuesday total of $98,830 raised for Trent University.

“Year over year, the College Challenge has shown the entire Trent community what an integral role the colleges play in the Trent experience,” said Julie Davis, vice-president, External Relations and Advancement. “This year, the outpouring of support was tremendous. The continued support is a testament of how vital the college experience is at Trent. Funds raised will provide sustainable, perpetual, and dependable sources of funds to support programming and college enhancements.”

Joining the Giving Tuesday campaign, the President’s Office once again offered two $5,000 prizes to encourage giving during the College Challenge. Traill College was awarded $5,000 for the highest per capita participation, and Gzowski College received $5,000 for the highest number of first-time donors. Funds raised also established the Richard Sadlier – Peter Robinson College Endowment, honouring the historic Peter Robinson College, strengthened the Trent Durham Greater Toronto Area campus, and honoured Julian Blackburn College through the support of key on-campus priorities.

Giving Tuesday included a real celebration of philanthropy on campus. Trent’s annual Philanthropy Day breakfast kicked off the day, where Dr. Tom Miller ’82 was inducted as an inaugural member of the Alumni Association’s Jade Circle, honouring his commitment to Trent. Walter Howell ’69 was made an honorary Trent alumnus of Lady Eaton College for continued support of Trent and championing the Legacy Society. Other on-campus festivities included the annual College Spirit event for students, encouraging them to wear college regalia and swag to show their college spirit.

The #ContinuetheCollegeChallenge Giving Tuesday campaign was supported through social media on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, and through e-mail and tele-fundraising.
