Academic Skills helps students uphold academic integrity standards at Trent:

  • The Academic Integrity Module in Blackboard includes updated content that addresses the unauthorized use of artificial intelligence in assessments.
  • How Do I Protect My Academic Integrity is an online guide for students that includes information about the use of artificial intelligence tools and strategies for documenting the integrity of student academic process.
  • Academic Skills instructors are available to visit your classroom to provide a workshop on artificial intelligence as it relates to academic integrity. Contact acdskills@trentu.ca to schedule a class visit or workshop.

Tri-Agency recommendations:

  • Guidance on the use of Artificial Intelligence in the development and review of research grant proposals

Researchers should consult individual publisher policies regarding the use of artificial intelligence tools in the preparation of manuscripts.

Ontario Council on Graduate Studies guidance:

  • Artificial Intelligence: Considerations for Graduate Research

Trent University Library's Artificial Intelligence Research Guide includes guidance and considerations when using generative AI tools for research.

Copyright & Intellectual Property

Generative AI tools often require users to agree to terms that permit the retention and reuse of data entered into their systems for training machine learning models.

Users that choose to upload or enter copyrighted or licensed material into generative AI tools may be infringing on copyright or license terms.

Review the terms of use for any generative AI tools before uploading or entering any copyright protected material to ensure that data is not retained or reused for training purposes.

Trent University's Microsoft Copilot subscription includes enterprise data protection and does not retain or reuse data for training.

Contact copyright@trentu.ca for questions about copyright.
