The myTrent Portal Needs You!
It’s Been a Long Haul
Four years ago, our university came together to plan and then build an all-new in-house portal system: myTrent. We believed then, as we do today, that Trent is an exceptional place with exceptional people, who are capable of exceptional things. We believed that if we all pulled together, we could, for far less money than turning to the outside for help, build something amazing.
Based on usage and ongoing feedback, we think we’ve been successful.
Here are some portal facts and figures :
- currently delivers 364 services to 35,591 users across 292 distinct audiences.
- Roughly 100,000 people log in each week.
- Maintained a 99.98% uptime over the last 4 years, with an average on-campus page load time of about 3/10ths of a second
Time Marches On
Let’s not kid ourselves. In the technology world, four years is an eternity. In this time, we’ve watched tablets turn from a market curiosity to a ubiquitous player in mobile computing. We’ve seen cloud-based services like Netflix and iTunes shake the foundations of traditional media almost overnight. We’ve seen old giants fall and new giants rise. The world has changed and we need to change with it.
We Need Your Help!
We’re renewing the portal, but this time, we’re not starting with a blank slate. Based on community feedback over the last year, we have a pretty good idea of what we need to change. However, we need more than that.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be putting together an advisory group consisting of 8 people representing staff(2), faculty(2), and students(3) to meet with us to fill in the blanks, provide ongoing support, and test new functionality as we develop it.
If you’d like to participate, please email mattkeefer@trentu.caand tell us a bit about yourself, how you use the portal, and what you bring to the group.
Thank You
