Panopto Recorder on Faculty Computers - License Expiration v.2.0 June 15, 2015
Hello All,
Please be advised that our license for Panopto recorder which enables faculty to use the recorder software on non-lectern computers will be discontinued effective June 20th 2015. The Panopto recorder will continue to be accessible in large lecture halls and in the IT recording studio for those who wish to use the software.
Impact: All installs of the Panopto recorder aside from those in designed lecture halls will be de-activated on June 19th 2015.
While we understand that the ability to create multimedia content is an important component of creating engaging classroom material, the cost associated with the individual Panopto recorder license was covered in a one-time only grant through the PIF program. With the added fiscal pressures on all departments in the university, it is not cost effective to renew this very expensive software license at this time. Our team recognizes that many members of our faculty have used this product extensively in the past year, and if it becomes financially feasible to adopt this or a similar license in the future we will consider returning to a one-to-one license model.
As an alternative to the recording lectures on your desktop or laptop computer with Panopto, we recommend considering the following options:
- Booking time to record in our IT Multimedia room which will continue to function with the Panopto software. To book time in the multimedia room, please book through outlook calendar (appointment - scheduling assistant – add rooms) select IT Multimedia Meeting Room (BL105.6)
- Adopting the use of the Camtasia software which is a one-time purchase (seehttp://shop.techsmith.com/store/techsm/en_AU/cat/categoryID.67158100for educational pricing details) - Content created in Camtasia can be posted in the Panopto system (please contact it@trentu.ca for additional details)
