New MyTrent to be Released Tomorrow

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

Good Afternoon All,

At 8:00am tomorrow morning, September 30th, the revised myTrent Beta will become the new myTrent.  You will be able to access the new myTrent by using the same address for myTrent that you use today (https://my.trentu.ca/portal).   All functions, forms and links that exist in the current portal will be available in the new portal.

This portal has taken over a year to complete.  Students, faculty, and staff came together to plan the next version of the myTrent Portal. While we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to change going in, we decided that while meeting these objectives, we’d also try to improve the overall portal-user experience as well:

More “My” in myTrent

The most important reason behind building the new portal was to make it more useful to users as they interact with it on a day-to-day basis. To achieve this, we added a taskbar to the bottom of the screen, where you can drag and drop your favourite apps. We also created a personalized notification system that will bring information you need to act on to the home screen. You can also personalize your desktop by changing your profile and background wallpaper.

Better Looking…

We also overhauled the look and feel of the myTrent Portal, bringing it into conformity with the website. To make our apps and services more distinctive (and therefore easier to find), we also completely overhauled the icon system.

And Smarter!

We’ve tried to make what you want easier to find by adding menu searching. Just type, and the system will do the rest. The portal-wide federated search has also been improved by providing a clearer distinction between content types, letting you filter results more specifically.

We would like to thank the committee that came together to make this portal rewrite a reality.  Additionally, we would like to recognize our valued partnership with Marketing & Communications and their most valuable contribution to maturing the design.
