Network Outage Friday Night
Dear Trent staff and faculty;
On Friday night at approximately 9:30 p.m., a routine configuration change was made to our network to increase the capacity of the wireless Internet connection. For reasons which are not yet clear, this change caused a partial shutdown of the entire campus network.
Unfortunately, reverting the configuration change did not fix the issue, and our technicians spent several hours isolating and working around the problem. Service was fully restored by 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
During the outage, any users on campus or in residence would not have been able to reliably reach any core services on campus (web site, MyTrent, etc.), and would not have had any internet access.
External access to our website or to MyTrent was briefly interrupted several times as well. Email delivery may have been delayed, but no messages would have been lost.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this outage. Our technicians are continuing to research the issue to understand what went wrong, so we can ensure it does not happen again.
