Blackboard (Learning System) Update

Since January 12, 2015 our technicians have been working to resolve an unpredictable, intermittent issue with the Blackboard testing module.  In the majority of cases, instructors have observed difficulty creating and updating tests with repeated Java (JSP) error messages. This issue has been identified as a software flaw in the Blackboard system and manifested after a routine, tested update to our Blackboard servers.

Since the onset of this issue our teams have been working directly with top tier software engineers from Blackboard and in consultation with them have installed several hotfixes and updates designed to correct this issue. The latest series of hotfixes were installed this morning, and we are now closely monitoring the system.

We understand that this issue has caused significant issues for our users, and sincerely apologize for the service interruption.  We will circulate a follow-up tech bulletin as soon as we are confident the issue has been resolved, or if additional measures are required.
