Founded in 1918, Åbo Akademi University is Finland’s only multidisciplinary, exclusively Swedish-language university. Located across Turku (Åbo) and Vaasa, it serves about 7,000 students, including 1,000 international learners.

The university encompasses four main faculties and focuses its research efforts on areas like minority research, sustainability, health solutions, and marine studies. You must choose a minimum of 50% of your courses at Åbo Akademi University, from the faculty that you will be studying at during your exchange.
Coursework is classified into three progressive academic levels:
- Basic Level: Undergraduate (Bachelor's level). No previous knowledge required. Typically taken during the first year.
- Intermediate Level: Undergraduate (Bachelor's level). Taken during the 2nd and 3rd years.
- Advanced Level: Graduate (Master's level). Taken by 4th and 5th-year students to support thesis writing.
Each semester at Åbo Akademi University is divided into two study periods, therefore there are four study periods in an academic year.
Some courses use other forms of examination than written exams and run over more than one study period.

Accommodations

House

On-campus accommodation is not available. Students are not guaranteed accommodation on campus. Turku is a very popular city to study in and there is a very high demand for student housing. Finding appropriate accommodation may be difficult, especially in the autumn semester. Abo partners with providers of off-campus housing.
