Arctic Forager Mobility and Information Exchange ca. 2500-Contact era: A Study of Beringian Ceramic Technology
2019 North at Trent Lecture Series

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Life Health Sciences/DNA Building, room B104
About: The final lecture in the North at Trent series will be presented by Dr. Shelby Anderson, Portland State University.

The 9th Annual Trent Northern Studies Colloquium
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Location: The Gathering Space, Gzowski College and Market Hall, 140 Charlotte Street
About: The Trent Northern Studies Colloquium is a one-day event dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the University’s excellence in northern research. The day will feature presentations by graduate and undergraduate students as well as a screening of the documentary Canada C3 at Market Hall.

The Substance of Things Hoped For: Christian Faith and the Problem of Racial Justice
Time: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Location: Student Centre, Event Space
About: The second of two guest lectures, the Trent Central Student Association welcomes Dr. Michael Cappello, professor in the Faculty of Education, University of Regina, to Trent University. This event is free and all are welcome.

Location: Traill College, Bagnani Hall
About: This year’s Margaret Laurence Fellow, Andrew Forbes, will provide the Margaret Laurence Fellowship Address. This year’s topic is, “the Days Ahead: Warning and Mourning in Climate Fiction.”

Book Launch of Shoolee: The Early Years. Shirley Williams; and Film Debut of Wiisgaapte (Bitter Smoke), Sacha Trudeau
Time: 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Location: Otonabee College, Wenjack Theatre
About: Come and join us for the launch of Elder Shirley Williams’ new book Shoolee: The Early Years and, Sacha Trudeau’s new short film, Wiisgaapte (Bitter Smoke). This event is free and all are welcome. Donations for the 10th anniversary Kawartha Lakes Water Walk are welcome.

10th Annual Kawartha Lakes Water Walk
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Location: This year marks the 10th annual Kawartha Lakes Water Walk, led by Elder Dr. Shirley Williams, Professor Emerita, Chanie Wenjack School. Breakfast will include a presentation of Dr. Williams’s new book – Shoolee: The Early Years and a special guest presentation by Sacha Trudeau on his experience of working with Dr. Williams on his recent film Wiisgaapte (Bitter Smoke). All are welcome to this event.

Celebration of Community-Based Research
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: Trent Student Centre, Alumni Atrium
About: Students from across Trent University will present the findings of their research through poster presentations throughout the morning. This celebration highlights the active collaboration between Trent University and the Trent Community Research Centre.

Three Minute Thesis
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Location: Market Hall, 140 Charlotte Street
About: The Three Minute Thesis Competition presents Masters and Ph.D. students with the ultimate challenge: to explain their complex and highly specialized research and ideas to a general audience in just three minutes, using only one Power Point slide.

Our Relationship with Nature

Trent Lands and Nature Areas Plan Speaker Series
Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Location: Camp Kawartha Environment Centre, 2505 Pioneer Road
About: How does our relationship with nature impact us? Join a panel discussion featuring Trent psychology professor, Dr. Lisa Nisbet, Waaseyaa-Kew Kim Muskratt of Hiawatha First Nation and Executive Director of Camp Kawartha, Jacob Rodenburg as they discuss the effects of nature on human health and well-being. Dr. Cheryl McKenn-Neuman, Chair of the Trent Nature Areas Stewardship Advisory Committee will moderate this panel discussion.

Peterborough Regional Science Fair 50th Anniversary
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Location: Trent University, Science Complex and Chemical Science Building
About: Each year, students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 display their projects in biological, physical, engineering and computing sciences. The experience is an invaluable stepping-stone for many who go on to pursue successful careers.
