National Lacrosse League selections of Curtis Conley, Curtis Romanchych reflect varsity team’s high performance pathway

The recent draft selection of two Trent Excalibur men’s lacrosse team members by National Lacrosse League (NLL) clubs “speaks clearly to the commitment” of both student-athletes, on and off the playing field.

Defender Curtis Conley was selected by the Colorado Mammoth in the third round, 40th overall, while long-stick midfielder Curtis Romanchych was chosen in the fourth round, 67th overall, by the Toronto Rock. Their selection brings the total number of Excalibur players, past and present, signed to NLL contracts for the upcoming season to nine.

“It’s not a secret that two of our hardest workers off the field are two of our most successful on the floor,” says Excalibur head coach Mark Farthing, describing Mr. Conley’s style of play as “electric…with blazing speed in transition” and Mr. Romanchych as “an absolute vacuum on loose balls…a nuisance to play against.”

“Not enough credit is given to the teammates of drafted players, who not only push them in practices and games but also provide a safety net of love and support which they can use as a foundation to grow as people and lacrosse players. We’re proud of the Excalibur lacrosse culture we have and continue to build.”

Equally thrilled with both student-athletes’ draft success is Trent’s athlete development coordinator Chris Wilding.

“It’s our mandate to continue investing in the ongoing development of our varsity sport programs and establish the right supports for our Excalibur student-athletes so that they can achieve their high-performance goals and coaching is a key component of these plans,” says Mr. Wilding.

“Mark is an outstanding coach and the support he provides to our student-athletes throughout the year has truly raised the profile and caliber of the team I can’t speak enough about his leadership and that of his coaching team in generating a level of excitement around his program to the point that Trent has become the school of choice both academically and athletically in the sport of lacrosse.”
