French & Canadian Studies
The French & Canadian Studies degree invites you to challenge and question what it means to be Canadian. Learn alongside leading scholars, including a Governor General’s Literary Award winner, to deepen your understanding of Canada’s diverse cultures, histories, and languages while benefiting from a multicultural, bilingual education. Offering courses in both French and English, this program allows you to explore literature, politics, culture, and identity in Canada and develop advanced bilingual skills that set you apart in today’s global world.
Shaped by Trent’s reputation as a national leader in Canadian Studies, this degree will provide you with hands on experience and clear pathways to careers in education, culture, and government.
This joint major pairs two of Trent’s biggest strengths: examining the complex Canadian experience while exploring the culture, literature, and experiences of francophones in Canada and around the world, all alongside award-winning professors.
Gain career experience while earning academic credit with guaranteed experiential learning during your program.
You don't have to wait until after you graduate to put your education to work. In French & Canadian Studies, students benefit from Trent’s career experience guarantee, gaining hands on experience through a variety of opportunities, including working with the Trent Community Research Centre to complete a community-oriented project. Recently, a student explored creating a professionally curated museum exhibit for the Stanstead Museum in Quebec.
