Applied Artificial Intelligence

In this professional postgraduate certificate program, you will explore interdisciplinary topics related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), including the fundamental concepts of AI, basic computer programming, algorithms of machine learning, statistics, information systems, and the history, ethics, social, and political implications of AI.

Through this program – completed following your undergraduate degree – you will gain a deeper understanding of AI and ways to implement this cutting-edge technology in your professional career, and beyond. 

This postgraduate certificate program is offered exclusively at Trent’s Durham campus in the Greater Toronto Area. You will study in modern, new learning facilities at the Trent Durham Advanced Learning Centre (ALC) in the heart of downtown Oshawa surrounded by restaurants, cafés, entertainment venues, and other amenities. 

The ALC is also designed with student success in mind - in addition to Trent Durham instructors, the University provides a wide range of on-site support services including academic advisors, career supports, library staff, and Trent International.

Courses

The certificate program consists of the following 5.0 credits:

  • 3.0 COIS credits consisting of: 
    • COIS 1020H: Programming for Computer Science
    • COIS 1400H: Introduction to Data Science
    • COIS-ADMN 1620H: Introduction to Information Systems
    • COIS 3550H: Applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
    • COIS-MDST 3560H: Human-Computer Interaction
    • COIS 4850H: Information Systems Project
  • 0.5 FINA credit consisting of:
    • FINA 4103H: Financial Econometrics
  • 1.0 MATH credit consisting of:
    • MATH 1051H: Non-Calculus Statistics I: Elementary Probability and Statistics
    • MATH 1052H: Non-Calculus Statistics II: Elementary Statistical Methods
  • 0.5 PHIL credit consisting of:
    • COIS-PHIL 3270H: Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence

Admission Requirements

This Postgraduate Certificate is available to students who hold an undergraduate degree from any accredited university.
