Build your degree around the type of educator you want to become. Trent’s Teaching Education Stream (TES) helps you build the foundations for a career in education while offering the flexibility to select a major aligned with your interests. Placements throughout the program allow you to experience how teaching and learning take shape in different spaces. The program also prepares you for Trent's Bachelor of Education, for which you can earn guaranteed entry if you maintain an 85% or higher average in the last 10 credits of your program.
- Complete the Teacher Education Stream majoring in any B.A. or B.Sc. degree
- Complete up to three education-related placements near Peterborough, Durham GTA, or close to home.
- Learn alongside professors with knowledge and experience in current education curriculum and pedagogies and begin preparing for a career in primary/junior or intermediate/senior education.
- Choose from a range of teaching subjects to explore in the program and prepare for a future career in teaching.

Visual Arts
Have a budding interest in drawing, photography, film or graphic arts? Express yourself with this option and study the visual arts through both theory and practice. In addition to workshop classes in drawing, photography, film, and other visual media, you can take courses in theoretical, historical, and contemporary issues in the visual arts from a range of departments. This option is particularly appropriate for future primary and secondary school teachers.

Theatre Studies
Do you have a love for theatre and the performing arts? Combining areas of study from Ancient Greek and Roman Studies, Cultural Studies, English Literature, Indigenous Studies and Modern Languages and Literatures, this multi-departmental emphasis offers you the opportunity to choose credits from a very diverse selection of courses, all rooted in the history of, theory and performance in theatre.

Digital Humanities
Electronic media has become an integral part of how we view and explore the world. Through this new option you will bring a human-centred perspective to the innovations that continue to transform our shared digital landscape.
Working alongside Trent’s world-renowned faculty, including Canada Research Chairs, you will gain a deeper understanding of how digital tools are applied to solve research problems, and how research within the humanities impacts developments in the digital world.

Research Opportunities
- Based on your program focus, work directly with municipalities, community foundations, and non-profit organizations on community-based research projects to support local education initiatives while gaining valuable research experience.
Field Schools and Hands-On Courses
- Engage with classroom practicums, teaching technologies and literacy support, that provide the opportunity to learn from professionals.
Study Abroad
- Take your Trent education global. Spend a semester or year studying at one of Trent’s 50+ international partner universities, participate in a summer field course, or gain international experience through a placement or internship.

- Complete education-related placements in your second, third, and fourth years of the TES program, gaining a minimum of 30 hours of hands-on experience in a variety of learning environments.

In Their Own Words
I definitely have more confidence since I've been at Trent for the Teachers Education Stream. Some of the profs focus on presentation and being comfortable speaking in front of people and working with your peers to a common end, which was really useful to me especially because I used to be really nervous and disliked public speaking, but that really just like pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me feel confident in myself and made me think less of what the people in the crowd were thinking and more about what I could actually teach them.

Requirements
If you are coming straight from high school in Ontario or are a recent grad, the general admission requirements are:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
- A minimum of six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses, including program-specific prerequisites
- ENG4U with a minimum of 60%
