Degree Requirements

Bachelor of Arts Program in Criminology

Gain critical and interdisciplinary understanding of criminalization and punishment, in a program that places critical focus on systemic oppression including the historical and contemporary realities of Indigenous peoples’, over-criminalization.

The single-major Honours program requires 20.0 credits including the following 12.0 credits:

  • 3.0 CRIM credits consisting of:
    • CRIM 1615H: Introduction to Criminology - only available online
    • CRIM 2616H: Monsters and Misfits: History of Criminological Theories - only available online
    • CRIM 2617H: Criminology Research Methods - only available online
    • CRIM 3617H: Criminological Data Analysis - only available online
    • CRIM 3650H: Doing Crime and Doing Time: Advanced Research Design - only available online
    • CRIM 3660H: Policing and Punishing Poverty - only available online
  • 2.0 CRIM credits at the 4000 level
  • 2.5 CRIM credits at the 3000 level or beyond in addition to the above
  • 1.0 CRIM credit in addition to the above
  • 0.5 FRSC credit consisting of
    • FRSC 1100H: Introduction to Canadian Justice - Must register in the web course
  • 1.0 INDG credit consisting of
    • INDG 1001H: The Foundation for Reconciliation (ICR)
    • INDG 3201H: Indigenous Peoples in Urban Centres—City as Home
  • 1.0 SOCI credits consisting of
    • SOCI 1001H: Introduction to Sociology I: Critical Foundations
    • SOCI 1002H: Introduction to Sociology II: Exploring Social Life
  • 0.5 SOCI credit from either:
    • SOCI 2220H: Intersecting Social Inequalities
    • SOCI 2610H: Deviance and Social Control
  • 0.5 WRIT credit consisting of
    • WRIT 1001H: Write in Time
