Professor McDermid earned his BA in Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario, and his MA and PhD from Brown University where he graduated in 1998. Prior to coming to Trent University in 2002, he spent two years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Instituto de Investigaciones at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico), followed by two years in a tenure track position at St.
Dr. Michael Hickson received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario in 2010. Prior to joining the Trent Philosophy Department, Dr. Hickson was awarded a Research Fellowship at the University of Notre Dame (2010-2011), and was an Assistant Professor at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California (2011-2013). His recent research has focused on the history of seventeenth-century philosophy, especially Bayle, Descartes, skepticism, and the problem of evil.
