Literature and visual culture across the modern period (from the late eighteenth century to the present), the complex relationship between cultural artifacts and the contexts of their production and reception. Current areas of interest include Victorian popular fiction, the modernist novel, magical realism and the postmodern fantastic, media history, early cinema, and the graphic novel.
