From a research perspective, I am broadly interested in the experiences of aging in small towns and rural and remote communities, and the influences of factors such as population decline and community capacity on seniors’ health and well-being in these types of geographies. More specifically, I am interested in how the World Health Organization’s Age-Friendly Communities model can best be applied in Canadian communities, the impacts of this type of program on seniors, and how best to facilitate effective, sustainable program development at the community level. I am also interested in the research areas of work and health, body image satisfaction, health psychology, the social economy (volunteerism), and applying social capital paradigms to these topics. I also am interested in health policy and program evaluation, and as such, conduct evaluations and reviews for a variety of health boards and public service agencies.
