School of Education Associate Professor Luigi Iannacci explores how disability is currently understood in education

The book cover of Luigi Iannacci's Reconceptualizing Disability in Education out now.

Dr. Luigi Iannacci, a professor in Trent’s School of Education, recently published “Reconceptualizing Disability in Education,” which critically explores problematic discourses, practices and pedagogies that inform how disability is understood and responded to within education. Based on his research and 25 years of experience in education, the book aims to support students with disabilities through a critical analysis of how they are positioned, understood and provided for. Ultimately, the book provides a rethinking of inclusion and instruction as they relate to students with disabilities.

Speaking of the release, Professor Iannacci says, “This book is a labor of love intended to help educators at all levels respond to students with disabilities in ways that are asset-oriented and inclusive. Bachelor of education students, practicing teachers, administrators and policy makers will be interested in the book and the unique and accessible narrative approach it takes.”

Prof. Iannacci coordinates the Supporting Literacy and Learner’s with Special Needs course as well as the Language and Literacy and Cultural and Linguistic Diversity courses in the Bachelor of Education program at the School of Education.
