International Orientation Session

“I’ve been accepted to Trent! What do I do next?”

Okay, first things first – Congratulations! Now it’s time to get ready for orientation. TIP knows international students’ needs and TIP Camp is designed to address all of those needs-from immigration regulations to specialized health insurance. We can help guide you through your first few days whether you have been in Canada before or this is your first time.

**Registration for TIP Camp will be on your myTrent Learning System (WebCT). Read below for details**

TIP Camp begins on Friday, August 31 2012 and ends on Monday, September 3 2012 when we will arrive on campus. Students arriving at Pearson international Airport in Toronto on August 31 will be met by TIP and take a bus to camp with their luggage. Students arriving in Peterborough before August 31 will take the bus from Bata Library at Trent University on Friday afternoon and should bring a small bag of personal items and clothing (bring a sweater!)

How to register for TIP Camp (will be available starting June 12th):

Parent Information Session:

The parent information session will take place on Wednesday, August 29 at 1:00PM in the TIP office (Room CC 302).

More information on TIP Camp:

TIP Camp 2012 is an orientation weekend that takes place at Camp Timberlane in Haliburton, ON (http://camptimberlane.ca/).  TIP provides everything you need during camp including food, bed, information, and a set of bedding that is yours to keep (top and bottom sheet, blanket and pillow). You will be in the company of international students from over 50 countries and upper year Trent students that spend the summer getting ready for camp and are excited to meet you.  In addition, all of the TIP staff and their families attend camp and it is safe to say that once you get here and find out what TIP is about, you, too, will feel like family. There will be time to ask questions, plan your degree, play in the great Canadian outdoors and find out more about Trent University and Peterborough before arriving for the year.

So, don’t forget to register for camp. If your family would like to accompany you to Peterborough we suggest arriving a few days in advance. Visit: http://thekawarthas.ca/where-to-stay/ for a list of hotels in the area. We suggest calling your hotel to check its proximity to shops and other amenities, especially if you will not have access to a vehicle in Peterborough and will need to rely on public transit (the bus) and/or taxi cabs for transportation. Parents are welcome to remain in Peterborough while their child attends TIP Camp but are advised that Monday, September 3 is a statutory holiday in Canada and many establishments will be closed in observance of Labour Day.

See you there!
