Free Durham Residence Winner Ready for a New Adventure on Campus
Natalie Lavoie of the Lenape People of the Delaware Nation at Moroviantown attended a tour of Trent Durham Residence in her final year of high school. That tour resulted in an entry to a draw to win free first-year residence – a draw Natalie recently won.
Natalie was out shopping with her mom when she got the call that she had won free residence and a dining plan for her first year in pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Trent Durham. “It was pretty awesome, I felt very blessed to receive this prize,” said Natalie, adding that winning made choice to come to Trent even easier.
Natalie heard about Trent Durham GTA’s program offerings from friends who had had positive experiences at Trent and booked a campus tour to learn more. After getting a first-hand look at Trent Durham’s intimate campus and hearing about what it’s like to be a student at the thriving urban campus, she accepted her offer.
“Something about Trent drew me in compared to other schools I applied to," Natalie said. "When I read about the Psychology program, it was exactly what I wanted to be doing. And, after I toured the campus, I thought wow, this is really nice. This is a place I can really see myself.”
Trent Durham’s new residence building opened in 2021 and residence staff are now welcoming the newest cohort of students who will make the Durham campus their home this fall. “Trent Housing is beyond excited to welcome our new students to campus,” said Brooke Lawler from Housing Services. “Living on campus allows residence to become your home, and for your friends to become your family. Residence plays a vital role in constructing the encouraging and tight-knit community that ultimately creates Trent University.”
When asked what she was looking forward to most about starting at Trent Durham, Natalie said: “Pretty much everything! It’s my first year, I don’t really know what to expect. I’m looking forward to the experience of living in residence, as well as just starting something new after high school.”
