Trent University Durham GTA Celebrates Largest Graduating Class at 2018 Convocation Ceremonies June 12
Trent University Durham GTA will celebrate the accomplishments of its largest graduating class to date and Holocaust survivor Max Eisen will be presented with an honorary degree at the University’s 2018 Convocation ceremonies on Tuesday, June 12 at the Ajax Convention Centre (550 Beck Crescent).
“This year is a year of firsts for Trent University Durham GTA,” said Joe Muldoon, head of Trent University Durham GTA. “We will be celebrating the largest graduating class to date at our Durham campus, hosting two convocation ceremonies for the first time due to our growing student body, and also honouring the achievements of the first graduates of some of our new programs, including Social Work and Communications and Critical Thinking.”
Trent’s president and vice-chancellor Dr. Leo Groarke and Trent chancellor Dr. Don Tapscott ‘66, will preside over convocation at the Durham ceremonies, during which degrees will be granted in the following Trent University Durham GTA programs: Business Administration, Anthropology, English Literature, History, Communications & Critical Thinking, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Child & Youth Studies, Media Studies, Gender & Women’s Studies, and Philosophy. Postgraduate certificates in Human Resource Management and Marketing & Entrepreneurship will also be granted.
In addition to honouring 151 graduates, the largest graduating class to date in Trent Durham’s history, the University will bestow an honorary degree, Trent’s highest honour, upon Max Eisen, orator, author and first-hand witness to the Holocaust. Mr. Eisen will address the graduating class during the morning ceremony.
Trent Durham’s ceremonies follow a total of eight ceremonies held from June 5 to 8 at the Trent University Peterborough campus. This year, across both campuses, Trent University will honour 1,827 members of the 2018 graduating class.

Tuesday, June 12, 2018 –10:00 a.m. ceremony:
Degrees will be conferred for Business Administration, Anthropology, Communications and Critical Thinking, English Literature, Media Studies, Gender & Women’s Studies, Philosophy and History. Certificates will be presented for the Human Resource Management and Marketing and Entrepreneurship programs. Max Eisen will also be presented with an honorary degree and give the convocation address at this ceremony.
Tuesday, June 12, 2018 – 1:00 p.m. ceremony:
Degrees will be conferred for Child & Youth Studies, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. An Eminent Service award will also be presented to Sue Graham Parker.
