Kangaroo Contest Brings Young Mathematicians to Trent
More than 125 young mathematicians got a sneak peek at what it’s like to be a Trent student, visiting our campuses as participants in the 2018 Canadian Mathematics Kangaroo Contest (CMKC). The annual competition was held March 18, and featured a total of 6,420 students at 50 sites across Canada, including Trent’s Peterborough and Durham GTA campuses. Over 100 students registered to participate in Durham, and Peterborough had 25 registered participants.
“The Math Kangaroo Contest is really an important event because it benefits both the University and the local community,” said Dr. Wenying Feng, professor and chair Department of Mathematics at Trent. “On the one hand, it promotes the Trent reputation and community services, strengthens the connection between Trent and local schools and local resident families. On the other hand, it promotes student interests in mathematics at their earlier ages and enhances local school mathematics education with challenging problems.”
