What is the TIP Job Subsidy Program?

Approximately 600 international students will be studying at Trent University this year. Many of these students will be hoping to secure part-time jobs to help with the costs of their education.

International students are allowed to work in Canada on-campus under their valid Study Permit. Also, those international students that meet the criteria are eligible to apply for an off-campus work permit.

Since full-fee paying international students have financial need but are not eligible for TWSP-subsidized on-campus positions, the Trent International Program offers subsidies to Departments, Colleges, Administrative Service Units, Faculty, etc. interested in hiring international students during the academic year.

Criteria and Eligibility

TIP will consider requests to provide up to 50% of the funding for each position. The allocations are based on the current minimum hourly wage plus benefits, for a maximum 200 hours per academic year.

Only international students attending Trent University on a valid Study Permit are eligible for the TIP Job Subsidy Program.

The Final Step

  • Immediately after hiring the student, print and complete the TIP Job Subsidy Agreement form.  This agreement, along with a copy of the student's study permit, must be submitted to the TIP Office for fund transfer purposes.
  • The TIP office will arrange for transfer of funds in the spring.  Please contact TIP if there is a change in your student staff.

Important TIP Notes:

  • TIP Job Subsidy funding is limited to each individual student holding TIP Job Subsidy position(s) totaling a maximum of 10 hours/week for 20 weeks.
  • All international students will be advised to look for on-campus jobs on the Career Centre Job Board (online).
  • If you hire a student, who is not an international student with a valid study permit, you will not be reimbursed for the funding.
