The Trent Durham experience is expanding into downtown Oshawa with the official opening of Trent University Durham GTA’s Advanced Learning Centre (ALC) at 11 Simcoe St. N.

The ALC is the new home to Trent Durham’s thriving postgraduate certificates with plans to add additional graduate programming as the University continues to enhance its downtown presence.

“Our ongoing commitment to small class sizes, access to professors, supports inside and outside the classroom, and a vibrant learning community, is all housed in a new, modern building representing Trent’s continued growth within the Region with the goal of serving more students,” says Dr. Scott Henderson.

Dean Henderson was joined by Trent President Leo Groarke, Board vice-chair and Trent alumnus Doug Kirk ‘70, and several local dignitaries including Regional Chair John Henry and Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter, at the official grand opening of the new building held earlier today.

“This new building is instrumental in creating a downtown space for students to have the Trent experience, one where they can take advantage of the close-knit community, yet metropolitan feel of the Region, as well as its proximity to Toronto and its opportunities for jobs after earning their postgraduate certificates,” says Vice-Chair Kirk, who is the president and founder of Durham Radio Inc. "As an alumnus myself, it’s very important that the experience I had at Trent, which I value very deeply and helped me succeed in my own career, be made available in the larger context of the Durham Region and GTA.”

The ALC is designed with students in mind and includes a wide range of on-site support services including academic advisors, career supports, library staff, and Trent International.

This fall, the modern new learning facility has brought approximately 800 new postsecondary students to the downtown location, surrounded by restaurants, coffee shops and other amenities.
