Trent University’s Justin Chiu Stadium, home of the Trent Excalibur, will be the host venue for the 2022 Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) Baggataway Cup Championship weekend, scheduled for November 4 – 6, 2022.

“We’re honoured to have been selected as the host for the 2022 Baggataway Cup this fall,” said Deborah Bright-Brundle, director of Trent Athletics and Recreation. “Trent University has a history of hosting national and international lacrosse championships, and we are proud to host such a monumental part of the CUFLA season. The Excalibur men’s lacrosse team competes annually at an elite level and each season represents the green and white with great pride.”

This marks the second time in the history of Trent’s lacrosse program that the University will host the Baggataway Cup, a championship that the Trent Excalibur men’s lacrosse team has qualified and competed in annually since 2015.

The Baggataway Cup championship weekend also comes at a historically significant moment for the Peterborough community. This summer, the City of Peterborough is celebrating 150 years of lacrosse history, and the Baggataway Cup will act as a great event to conclude the celebration.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to compete at Justin Chiu Stadium, in front of the hometown fans,” said Mark Farthing, head coach of the Excalibur men’s lacrosse team. “The city is well known for  lacrosse, not only at Trent but also in the Peterborough region as well. It will be a great opportunity to have the whole community come watch and support us during the championship weekend.”

The event will highlight the growth of the Excalibur lacrosse programs at the Justin Chiu Stadium and the stadium’s new upgrades, including a new scoreboard and enhancements to facilities surrounding the stadium.

Kevin Caplice, the commissioner of the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) is also excited to bring the Baggataway Cup back to Trent University and Peterborough.

“There is such a strong lacrosse base at Trent University and Peterborough,” said Commissioner Caplice. “Whenever we have gone to Trent, even for a regular season game, the grandstand is full. We all remember when Trent hosted the Baggataway the first time in 2012, and how well the attendance was for the event, the teams, and our organization. The Trent Excalibur will put on another fantastic show this fall in 2022.”
