School of Business offers traditional B.B.A., career-focused specializations, unique joint majors and postgraduate programs

Students, faculty and community come together to official launch new School of Business at Trent

Recognizing the integral role innovative and creative thinking plays in the world of business, Trent University has launched a new School of Business to prepare the next generation of business leaders, and equip graduates for success in careers as entrepreneurs, accountants, HR professionals, marketing experts, and more.

“We are very pleased to be launching the School of Business at Trent, adding to the growing list of innovative and transformative things happening here at the University,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University. “Trent has always had a strong business program, and the new School of Business at both our Peterborough and Durham - GTA campuses will allow us to expand current program offerings and broaden our business networks locally, nationally and globally.”

The School of Business at Trent offers students at both campuses unparalleled choice when it comes to academic business programs. Trent’s popular Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree focuses on economics, management and entrepreneurship, with a full slate of accounting courses that prepares students for the CPA designation or as a launch pad to an M.B.A. B.B.A. students can also choose to focus their degree on a broad range of career-focused specializations, ranging from Accounting and Finance to Ethics and Sustainability and Entrepreneurship, just to name a few. In addition, the School also offers students the unique opportunity to combine business courses with virtually any arts or science degree. Trent is the only university in Canada to offer such a wide range of joint majors in Business, allowing students to enhance their B.A. or B.Sc. degree by combining business with another area of interest – everything from Media Studies and Geography to Environmental Science and Psychology. With a degree that combines the best of both worlds, students graduate with a competitive edge.

In addition to the many degree options for undergraduates, the School of Business also offers two professional postgraduate certificates designed for students that have already completed an undergraduate degree in another discipline and would like to supplement it with a business focus in either Human Resource Management or Marketing & Entrepreneurship.

“The School of Business at Trent University provides customized, high-calibre learning with the individual student front and centre,” said Dr. Kirk Collins, director of the School of Business at Trent University. “The growth in the business program at Trent over the last few years has been impressive. The launch of the new School of Business is, in part due to demand, but it’s also part of the natural evolution of the program. We’re looking forward to growing the School even further.”

The School of Business also encourages students to supplement their chosen pathway with valuable experiential learning through internships, study-abroad programs, exchange opportunities or engaging in academic or community-based research projects with faculty members.

The School of Business at Trent also works with a wide-range of other institutions in the province to enhance and expand diploma to degree opportunities for students looking to transfer into the School and looking for flexible pathway options.

Speaking of how the new School of Business benefits students, Ribat Chowdhury ‘11, alumnus and co-founder of Ribbet, a marketing platform for local Peterborough businesses which was originally launched as part of a class project at Trent, says: “Trent teaches students to think about business differently. So if you want to do business in the 21st Century, Trent is the place to be.”
