What is Distance Education

Distance Education occurs when students are separated from their instructor and classmates, whether across the hall or across the province. Unlike the courses of the past that depended entirely on written communication through the mail, today’s distance courses include multimedia materials and always take advantage of web-based communication technologies.

Distance Education courses require the same commitment as a traditional on-campus course. You can expect the same content and workload just presented in a different way. For more information on what to expect from your Distance Education course see the Course Expectations under Prospective Students.

Distance Education should not be confused with Part-Time Studies. Part-time studies allows a student to take a course load which is less than 60% of a full-time course load (typically part-time students are those who are taking no more than two 0.5-credit courses in a term. Distance Education can be full-time or part-time, depending on how many courses a student takes in a term.
