School of Business Students Put Experiential Learning Opportunities on Display
Marketing Presentation Forum provides chance for students to share learning experiences
School of Business students in all years of study participated in the recent Marketing Presentation Forum on April 5, 2018 at Traill College. The forum tasked students with presenting their final project in their Introduction to Marketing course where they were asked to choose a brand to work on and conduct primary research to identify the strengths, marketing initiatives, potential brand issues and new opportunities. This experiential learning activity is for many students their first exposure to cutting a case, researching the inner workings of a brand, and then presenting it to a distinguished group of judges.
“The presentations overwhelming exceeded my expectations,” said Ellanne Thomson ’16 recent School of Business graduate and one of numerous judges at the forum. “The students took everything they had learned in their marketing course, and very effectively communicated well-thought out recommendations for each company.”
One group of international students from Columbia and Mexico took the opportunity to enhance the brand of their own start-up company Amantolli, which works with artisans and designers directed by a fair-trade business conduct to import hand crafted products including bags and sweaters from Mexico. They said that the course, “helped us to understand the market that we need to target, it has been a really great course to help us start to build our own brand.”
