Campus to Career Bootcamp Prepares Trent Students for Success After Graduation
Career advice & networking topics of discussion at annual event
Preparing for a bootcamp typically involves athletic gear and a yoga mat – not the case at the career bootcamp held at Trent University on April 5, 2018. Students brought their resumes and dressed to impress for the Campus to Career Bootcamp, an annual one-day professional development event open to all students looking to land a job.
Organized by the Career Centre at Trent University, the event offered students the chance to learn first-hand from employers the skills and experiences they are looking for in new graduates. The day involved several workshops on topics such as Redefining Career Success, Building Your Network, and Financial Literacy for Students, as well as a lively Campus to Career Skills panel discussion. Students also had the chance to network with employers from numerous organizations, including: Workforce Development Board, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Canada Border Services Agency, Kawartha Land Trust, Enterprise, Peterborough County, TD Bank, and more.
Sadaf Virji ‘02, manager of corporate partnerships at TIFF, is a proud Trent alumna who believes success is an ever-evolving concept that we can each define for ourselves. In her workshop at the event, she spoke about the importance of self-reflection, getting to know yourself, and defining your “why” when considering career options.
