All are invited to the launch of the Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies at Trent University.
Join us for the Provost's Panel: Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to Action immediately following opening remarks.
The panel will feature:
- Pearl Achneepineskum & Daisy Munroe, Chanie’s surviving sisters
- Mike Downie, Downie-Wenjack Foundation
- Elder Dr. Shirley Williams ’79, Trent University professor emerita
- Dr. John Milloy, Trent University professor emeritus and author of A National Crime – the History of the Residential School in Canada
- Alice Williams, chair, Kawartha Truth and Reconciliation Committee
- Moderator: Dr. Dawn Lavell-Harvard, director, First Peoples House of Learning, Trent University
The official opening of the Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies is part of Indigenous Insights, celebrating the School’s programming and pedagogy, and the annual Elders & Traditional Peoples Gathering, running Friday, March 2 – Sunday, March 4.
