The Secret Path is an animated film by The Tragically Hip's Gord Downie, that tells the story of Chanie Wenjack, a 12 year old boy who froze to death 50 years ago after fleeing the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ont.
This CBC screening will be shown at 9 pm, on the 50th anniversary of the day Wenjack’s body was discovered. Preceding the screening a panel discussion featuring Shirley Williams, Elder, Residential School Survivor and Professor Emeritus, Trent University; Dr. John Milloy, Special Advisor to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and Professor Emeritus, Trent University; Karissa Dawn Martin, Indigenous Studies & History student, Trent University; Liz Stone, Executive Director, Niijkiwendidaa Anishnaabe-Kwewag, Peterborough, discussing the lasting impact of Residential schools, and how we move forward through reconciliation.
A reception will take place in the foyer.
