Trent University Board of Governors Approves New Board Appointments for 2016/17
Board appointments, farewell to departing governors, and newly appointed governor emeritus announced at year-end board meeting
The Board of Governors of Trent University met on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Symons Campus in Peterborough for their last regular meeting of the 2015/16 academic year.
In addition to receiving annual reports highlighting the year’s accomplishments, the Board considered several key items of business coming forward from Board committees, the University Senate, and senior administration.
Board Appointments Confirmed for 2016/17
The Board approved four appointments from the external community, each for a three-year term, including Connie Bonello, Peter Dilworth ‘80, Robyn Jacobson, and Murad Younis. In addition, the Board confirmed the mid-term appointment of Professor Rhonda Smith of the Forensic Science department to one of the two academic seats on the Board for a one-year term, replacing Dr. Craig Brunetti following his recent appointment as dean of graduate studies.
New Policies Approved
The Board approved two new research policies – Research Contracts, and Faculty External Research, as well as a new policy on Reporting and Addressing Fraud, Theft and Misappropriation of University Resources.
Governor Emeritus, and Departing Governors Honoured
The Board meeting concluded with a year-end reception and presentations to honour newly-appointed governor emeritus Michael Mackey. This appointment recognizes and celebrates Mr. Mackey’s exemplary service to Trent University in his previous capacity as governor, as well as his continuing commitment to the University through his work on Board committees.
In addition, the Board recognized and thanked governors who are completing their service on the Board in 2016: Sherry Booth ‘98, Craig Brunetti, Robin Dines ‘76, Dorcas Mensah, Robin Quantick ‘78, Robin Sundstrom ‘78, and Asaf Zohar. Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor, also formally recognized the outstanding leadership of outgoing Board chair Bryan Davies, and the tremendous legacy he leaves behind following eight years of service on the Board of Governors.
Next Meeting
The Board’s first meeting in 2016/17 will take place on September 30, 2016 at Trent University’s Symons Campus in Peterborough.
