Results & Reflections: Nursing Students Share Clinical Placement Experiences
Second-year Trent/Fleming Nursing students share clinical experiences in poster presentations
Trent’s second-year nursing students put their learning on display, sharing highlights from months of hands-on learning experience in their clinical placements, at the NURS2020H poster day on March 17.
The wide variety of poster presentations reflected the breadth of the Nursing profession and nearly limitless opportunities for nursing students to get involved and make a difference in the community.
Speaking about the fair, second-year student Kayla Bittner said: “It allows you see the different aspects of community nursing. It can range anywhere from Victoria Order of Nurses to students travelling to Honduras to implement a clean water and water filtration project. It gives students the opportunity to explore the different options that are out there besides traditional hospital nursing.”
Colleen Noorhoff, who worked at Geriatric Health Services in Peterborough on a project called Music of Your Life, which creates personalized playlists for patients suffering with dementia in the hopes of triggering their memories and improving behaviour, echoed that statement, saying: "It was nice to be outside of the hospital to see a different aspect of nursing.”
Trent’s founding president, Professor THB Symons, was even involved in one of the projects, which looked at the Victorian Order of Nurses and what’s important to clients and caregivers. Professor Symons was one of four clients interviewed by Trent students Hunter Ellis and Jessica Kirkham for the project.
