Psychology Professor Named First Canadian President of International Organization
Dr. Terry Humphreys named president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality
Sexual consent, first sexual experiences and sexual behavior and technology are just a few current areas of study for Dr. Terry Humphreys, a professor in the Psychology department at Trent. With his leadership in human sexuality and social psychology, Professor Humphreys was a natural choice for the position of president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) – the first Canadian to hold the prestigious post.
"I am, at the same time, incredibly honoured and deeply humbled to be named the first Canadian president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality,” said Prof. Humphreys. “This has been my academic family for about 20 years and they have enriched my career immeasurably. I felt it was time for me to give back to the organization and I am very grateful that they agreed."
SSSS is dedicated to advancing knowledge of sexuality and communicating scientifically-based sexuality research and scholarship to professionals, policy makers, and the general public. SSSS fosters a worldwide community of diverse professionals committed to a scholarly and scientific approach to acquiring and disseminating accurate knowledge of sexuality. More than 700 individuals hold membership in the Society and includes anthropologists, biologists, educators, historians, nurses, physicians, psychologists, sociologists, theologians, therapists, and many other disciplines.
