Trent Excalibur Men’s Rugby Takes Home Gold
Team scores 32 unanswered points to cap unbeaten season
This past Saturday, Trent Excalibur Men’s Rugby team made the university proud as they played an epic game against Georgian College, defeating them with a final score of 51-2 and taking home gold in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA).

“It was an excellent gold medal game that was much more tightly contested than the final score indicates. Georgian are a very well coached team who put us under considerable pressure,” said coach, David McCully. “As a group, the team set a very clear goal after losing in the championship game a year ago. They have worked steadily toward that goal for 12 months and it is very pleasing to see their commitment rewarded in this championship.”
The team win was accompanied by Elijah Adair’s personal win. The third year student was named OCAA Men’s Rugby Player of the Year. Commenting on his accomplishment’s Mr. Adair said, “It is a great honour to be recognized by the league. In rugby, a player can only be as good as his team. The rest of my team is who really makes me look good, and without them I could not be the player that I am. I would also like to thank coach McCully – playing under him for four years has really changed me as a player and has helped me become the best that I can be.”
Reflecting on their time in the OCAA, coach McCully thanks the association for all their hard work and competition they have provided the team. However, after taking a few weeks to celebrate the big win, the Trent Men’s Rugby team will begin to prepare to re-join the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) next season.
