Trent Experience Prepares Four Alum for Election Success
Four Trent alumni elected as new MPs in ridings across Canada during national election
Four Trent University alum rose to victory in their respective ridings across Canada this week.
Recent alumna, Maryam Monsef ’03, a Biology and Psychology grad, became the first female MP to be elected in the Peterborough-Kawartha riding, while Nathan Cullen '94 who graduated with a B.A. Honours in International Studies Development and Environmental Studies/Science was elected as the NDP candidate for the Skeena - Bulkley Valley riding, Sheila Malcolmson '85, who graduated with a B.A. in Environmental Studies/Science, was elected as the NDP candidate for the Nanaimo-Ladysmith riding and Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet '74, who graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology, was elected as the NDP candidated for the Hochelaga riding.
When Ms. Monsef graduated from Trent she said, “I leave Trent with a very strong ‘why’, and armed with the knowledge that when I put my mind to it, I can matter.” As with all alumni, the Trent experience equipped Ms. Monsef and the other new alumni MPs, with the skills and tools required to be successful in their chosen field.
