Women in Leadership Share Advice with Trent Students
Trent Business Students’ Association hosts Women Speak event
“The Women Speak event allowed me to meet and socialize with successful women who’ve moved their way up in the business world. I enjoyed not only hearing about the struggles females face in male dominant fields, but about how to push past them and break barriers. It was inspiring to be among so many strong and empowering women.”
This was the reaction of third year Business Administration student Sarah Carthy after attending Women Speak, a panel discussion hosted by the Trent Business Students' Association (TBSA), aimed to spark a critical discussion about gender issues in the workplace.
The October 6 panel event at the Junction Night Club featured successful and prominent community leaders including Dana McLean, branch manager of RBC, Dr. Gail Johnson Morris, CEO of boutique strategy firm LeaderLink, Laura Nugent, studio director at Hot Yoga Peterborough, and Gabriella O'Rourke, director of marketing and business development at WeirFoulds LLP.
Each speaker spoke to the gender pay gap, their experiences with barriers to success, and offered advice to the young audience in attendance.
This year’s Women Speak event was reformatted from previous years as a sit-down dinner to give students the opportunity to interact one-on-one with successful members of the community and TBSA corporate partners.
