Special Convocation Ceremony Held for Three International Students
August 8, 2007

Three international students, who completed their degree through summer courses, had the opportunity to wear academic gowns and participate in a special convocation ceremony organized by the Trent International Program (TIP) on August 21.

During the ceremony, Reema Patel, Xu Li, and Fei (Terry) Zheng heard from Dianne Lister, Trent University’s vice-president for advancement and external relations. In her address to the graduates, Ms. Lister offered her congratulations and welcomed the newest alumni to the Trent family. She commended the graduates for their sense of courage and adventure, which brought them to Trent from abroad and said "I hope you will always remember Trent and keep it close to your heart."

Reema Patel, who originally hails from Kenya, graduates from Trent with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Both Xu Li and Fei (Terry) Zheng, of China, graduate with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics.

On hand to celebrate the occasion with the graduates were Jocelyn Aubrey, associate dean of undergraduate studies, University Registrar Susan Salusbury, TIP director Michael Allcott, and a number of Trent staff, faculty, and friends.

"This is the first-time we have organized such an event," said Dr. Allcott. "The TIP staff felt it was important to honour this occasion for these excellent students who won’t be able to return for a scheduled convocation ceremony. Trent truly appreciates the wealth of knowledge and experience international students bring to our community, and this was just one way for us to show that appreciation."
