Take Our Virtual Tour!

Trent University welcomes applications from qualified students all over the world. If you are a non-Canadian citizen studying in or outside of Canada, or a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada currently studying/residing outside of Canada, you can apply directly to Trent through our online application, or apply through the Ontario Universities Application Centre .

Either way, our goal is to respond to you as quickly and efficiently as possible. We understand that applying to a university can be a time filled with many questions and a great deal of anxiety, and it is our goal to make the process as smooth and straightforward as possible.

If you have any questions during the application process, please feel free to contact an appropriate International Program staff member for further assistance. We're here to help.

How to Apply *

First, please review all the admission requirements to ensure that you are eligible for admission:

If you meet Trent's minimum program requirements, check the Application Deadlines carefully. Please also note that programs in Education involve supplementary applications and will have earlier deadlines, so consult the websites of these programs closely.

Please note that these application guidelines are for undergraduate admission and ESL admission only.  If you are applying for a Formal Exchange, please consult the International Office in your home institution for details.  If you are applying for admission to graduate degree programs, please contact the Graduate Studies website or email graduate@trentu.ca for more information.

Options to Apply

  1. The most efficient way to apply is through our direct online application.   With this option, we receive your application immediately and can verify that your credit card payment has been approved right way.  This speeds up the application process for you and means that in most cases you will receive an admission decision more quickly.  You can still use the online application if you are not paying by credit card, but your application will not be processed until another form of payment is received.
  1. If you prefer not to apply online, you can download a PDF copy of our application and send this to Trent along with your documents and application payment.  Please note that if you send a paper copy, it may take slightly longer to process your application payment.
  1. If you are applying to more than one university in Ontario, you may choose to complete the Ontario University Application Centre application.  Because the Application Centre takes some time to transfer date to Trent, it may take one to two weeks after you submit your application through OUAC before you receive an acknowledgement from Trent.

Application Fees

All applicants to Trent must pay an application fee of CAD $50/US $50.  In order to ensure the safe transport of your admission decision and supplemental packages, we encourage all applicants outside Canada to pay an additional CAD $45/$US45 courier fee, for a total payment of CAD $95/US $95.

The most efficient way to make a payment is through a valid credit card.  Trent University will accept Visa, American Express and MasterCard.  If you don’t have a credit card, we can also accept an International Money Order or a certified cheque made payable to Trent University.  Please note that we do not accept Western Union transactions.

We are not able to accept credit card payments from Nigeria at this time. You may make arrangements to pay the application fee through wire transfer, certified cheque or money order. Please visit the student accounts webpage for more information on payment methods.

Also, please note that no application will be processed until application fees are paid and verified by our Financial Office.

What Happens Next?

After we receive your application form, documents and the applicable processing fees, your application will be processed, and you will be assigned a Trent University student number. We usually acknowledge the receipt of application documents by e-mail. The processing time for all applications is usually 5-7 business days.

Complete Application

If after processing your application, we find that it has all the required documents we will make an admission decision on your file. If your current grade average is 80% or higher (Canadian equivalent), you will automatically be considered for a University Entrance Scholarship of CDN$1,000 – $3,000, which will be applied towards your tuition fees.

Incomplete Application

If we find that your application is incomplete, we will notify you of the missing documents, and your application will be put on hold until everything is received. Once everything is in place, an admission decision will be made.

Normally, processing and assessment of admission files takes about one to three weeks. However, it might take much longer if your file is missing any of the required documentation or we find that we need to receive additional documentation from you.

Once the admission decision has been made, an official notification letter will be couriered to the mailing address indicated on your application form. If admitted, it will be a Letter of Acceptance along with other important information on how to proceed further. Some applicants might be offered conditional admission, usually conditional upon successful completion of their current studies and receipt of the official final transcript. In that case, make sure to send us the necessary documents as soon as they become available. It is important to realize that if you do not meet all the conditions of your acceptance, your admission will be revoked.

Transfer credit evaluations for eligible applicants are done once our offer of admission is accepted. It might take up to three weeks to complete the transfer credit process, provided that the Transfer Credit Assessment Fee is paid and all the course outlines are submitted on time.

We value every application and try our best to make sure that we process your admission file in a timely and efficient manner.
