Former dean of Graduate Studies at Brock University, Dr. Marilyn Rose has been named the inaugural visiting fellow at Catharine Parr Traill College for 2011/12 at Trent University, where she will work with graduate students to prepare for their professional lives upon graduation.

“Trent has a very close-knit graduate community that values collaboration and an interdisciplinary approach to scholarship and research. I look forward to providing students with guidance as they prepare to negotiate a wide world of career opportunities,” said Professor Rose.

“Dr. Rose’s work in helping students to prepare for a smooth transition from graduate studies to meaningful careers in the public and private sectors is important if we are to ensure a strong competitive advantage for Trent students in today's challenging job markets,” said Dr. Douglas Evans, principal of Traill College.”

Prof. Rose will provide direction on professional development initiatives for graduate students enrolled in Trent’s 13 programs, through workshops designed to help students prepare themselves for careers in academia or beyond. Prof. Rose spent seven years as Brock’s Dean of Graduate Studies and also served as an executive member of the Council of Ontario Universities for a number of years from 2000 to 2010.

Catharine Parr Traill College is Trent University’s primarily graduate student college.  The College aims to enhance the educational experience of all graduate students through educational and social activities and is the home of six of Trent’s graduate programs.
