Trent Judo Club Wins Gold, and 2 Silver in Second Tournament Showing

Senior Class from Trent Athletics Centre demonstrate skills at Open Judo Championship in North York

Three members of the senior class of the Trent Judo Club at the Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre put in a strong showing at their second championship tournament in North York over the weekend, finishing with one gold and two silver medals.

The North York Tournament of Champions was held at Seneca College on Saturday, October 22, marked the second time students from the adult class have participated in a competition since the Judo Club made its debut at the Trent Athletics Centre in January 2011.

Gold medal honours went to Aaron Little, who competed in a higher weight class, won all matches in the -100kg - yellow, orange, and green belt division by Ippon, a clean, controlled throw with speed and force or submission on the ground.

Silver medals were both awarded to Adam Yhap, who competed in the -73kg green and brown belt division as a green belt, and Jeff Doherty, who competed in the -81kg green belt and under division.

Out of two tournament showings and seven fighters for the senior class, the Trent University Judo club has brought home 2 Gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze. 

The next upcoming tournament for the Trent Judo Club will be in Ajax on November 26.

The Trent Judo Club is led by coach and Sensei Tom Hino, manager/coach Paul Teleki and coach Shayne Dahl. The club is run out of the new Trent Community Sport & Recreation Centre and is open to all members of the community. Youth classes begin at age seven.
