Chris Visconti

Trent University Oshawa

“I hope to be an active member and educator in a community providing children and adults with the opportunity to socially stay active at a low cost,” says Trent University Oshawa Psychology graduate Chris Visconti about his plans for the future. “My goal is to act as a catalyst within the community in hopes of helping people make better short term choices leading to better long term benefits.”

In the fall, Chris will take the next step towards achieving his goal of becoming an elementary school teacher when he starts a Bachelor of Education degree. “My passion in life is to teach and learn,” he says. “I believe that learning is an integral component of teaching because effective teachers reform as the world around them changes.”

Looking back on his decision to complete his undergraduate degree at Trent University Oshawa, Chris says that the campus’ convenient location was a key factor. Being from Pickering, attending a university close to home was important for Chris. In speaking about the Durham campus, he says: “After spending four years at this institution, I can proudly say that this is a unique university that should be considered a ‘dark horse’. Trent University Oshawa has allowed me to gain the goal of an education while providing me with the opportunity to build on who I am as a person.”

During his time at Trent, Chris was also involved with several student groups and activities, including the Peer Mentoring Program and New Student Orientation.

He adds: “I think one of the best parts of Trent University Oshawa is that it feels like a family. There is a collective group of people that are willing to go the extra step and be there for you whenever you need it. Staff members at this school take the time to get to know the students. You can walk into the main office and there will be someone who will know your name. Aside from a valuable education, I can truly say that attending Trent has helped mould my character and has given me the people’s skills that I will need to be an effective teacher in the future.”
