Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory

Indigenous Studies

Gabrielle Louise DOreenShe:kon, Hello. My name is Gabrielle Doreen. I’m a mature student graduating from General Bachelor of Arts program in Indigenous Studies at Trent University. Aside from being a student I am also a Mom to four boys. My children and I live on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. In 2010 I was fortunate to graduate from Trent’s Kanyenke’ha Diploma program. That experience allowed me to learn the Mohawk language and earn credits towards my Degree. I am grateful for the support and sacrifices my family has made in order for me to focus my energy into my studies. With my achievements at Trent, including receiving a Bagnani Medal, I wish to teach and carry forward Mohawk language in my community. I chose Trent University 16 years ago, but had to wait until the time was right for me to attend. I have always had a connection to Trent because of its relationship to nature, people and community. The first day I walked on campus I had feelings of belonging and a source of strength. On my last day, I left Trent with feelings of accomplishment and pride. Nya:wen Trent for the amazing life experience
