“If a prospective student is looking for an academic atmosphere where she will be known, by name, to leading scholars, where she can share ideas in intimate lectures and seminars, and where she will be challenged academically and supported personally, then I recommend Trent in Oshawa,” says History graduate Claudia Warner-Romano.

Discussing her own reasons for choosing Trent’s Oshawa campus, Claudia says: “Admittedly, I was first intrigued by Trent in Oshawa because it was conveniently located in my hometown. What I discovered after meeting with staff, faculty and students was that Trent in Oshawa offered excellent academic and financial support, high quality faculty and a welcoming student body.”

Like other undergraduate students, Claudia came to Trent University Oshawa following high school. Being a university student during such a developmental time in her life has left an indelible impact. “The concepts I have been introduced to in university were unlike anything I had previously encountered. Not only will I take with me from Trent a critical way of thinking, but the memories of the people I have met, engaged with, and learned from will remain as well. When I consider the last four years I’ve spent at Trent, I think of it as a place that has helped to foster both my personal and academic growth.”

Looking ahead to the future and her plans to pursue a Masters of History starting in the fall, Claudia is grateful for the experiences she gained at Trent.

“I strongly believe my education from Trent has prepared me as I carry on in my academic career. The intimacy offered by Trent in Oshawa means that the option to hide behind an anonymous student number is not a viable one for success. The smaller class sizes has given me the opportunity to engage with required material and participate in discussions with peers on a level unlike what I believe is offered at other universities,” she says. “It has provided me not only with the necessary skills to succeed in graduate school but Trent has also provided me with the confidence of knowing that I have these tools to succeed.”
