Matthew Hicks

Matthew HicksStreetsville, Ontario
Ancient Greek and Roman Studies and History

Matthew Hicks loves conducting research, listening to music, and learning. He advocates for animal rights and environmental policy and describes himself as an easy going, fun person, always dedicated to his studies. This dedication to academia is reflected in the fact that Matthew graduates from Trent with not one, but two, degrees – an Honours B.A. in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies and an Honours B.A. in History.

“My time at Trent has been years of personal growth,” Matthew says. “From my relationships with fellow students to close friends to faculty, my experiences at Trent have shaped me into the person I am today.

Influenced by having what he describes as “the most inspiring and intellectually stimulating professors year after year,” Matthew has dreams of becoming a principal and venturing into politics with the goal of improving the high school curriculum.

“I want to encourage students to continue their education, no matter what it is,” he says. “If I can instill the love of knowledge in my students then I know I have made a difference because I have given them the key to their own empowerment, which they can share with their community, their country, their World.”

For Matthew, his time at Trent has equipped him well to take on his life’s ambitions. “Trent’s mandate to have the best professors teach at their university has significantly prepared me for my future as a teacher,” he says. “Professors have taken time to talk to me about assignments, research, essay writing and presentations. I cannot emphasize more the benefits of having a relationship with your professors.”
