Joe Wood

Peterborough, Ontario
Business Administration
Symons Medal Winner

For Peterborough native, Joe Wood, choosing to attend Trent University was an easy decision. Given its extremely competitive scholarship package for high caliber students, the excellent reputation of the Business Administration program, and the ample opportunities to get involved, Joe found at Trent the many positive features that would be crucial to his success in post-secondary education.

“I chose Trent for those three big reasons – its affordability, quality education, and great student lifestyle,” Joe says.

Over four years at Trent, Joe has truly excelled, especially in his academics. In recognition of academic excellence, Joe was awarded a Symons Medal at Convocation.

“Winning the Symons Medal is a huge honour,” says Joe. “I feel that it’s a capstone to my undergraduate academic career. I am humbled to be joining this award’s esteemed recipients, past and present. It is a heartening affirmation of my hard work and growth as a critical thinker.”

Joe’s overwhelming success in academics is matched only by his dedication and commitment to his extra-curricular activities. While at Trent, Joe has volunteered as an accounting tutor for Trent Students Offering Support (SOS) and helped to raise $1,800 for the registered charity Friends of Honduran Children. He was also the treasurer and president of Absynthe Magazine, one of Trent’s student-run university publications. In addition, Joe hosted a radio talk show called “The Week in Review” on Trent Radio for four years.

Looking back on all of his experiences at Trent, Joe feels his education took place both in and outside of the classroom. “It’s important to see the big picture of getting a degree and building a resume, yet it’s also essential to embrace the daily flow of life,” Joe says. “From Trent I will retain a network of great friends and world-class professors. I will also keep my core belief in the ability of free agents and governments to interact efficiently and resolve the global problems that we, as global citizens, face.”

Joe’s future plans involve working in public service. In fact, he has already accepted a position as a Business and Financial Analyst Intern for the Ministry of Natural Resources.
