Alex Pershái

As home to one of the first Ph.D. programs of its kind, Trent University was a top choice for international graduate student Alex Pershái.  Through his dissertation work, he is exploring the cultural and social authorities of dictionaries and how they define matters of gender, race, class, nationalism, and literacy.

Boipelo Oitsile
History M.A.
Home Counrty: Botswana

Boipelo Oitsile was the first international student to join the new History M.A. program at Trent in 2008.  She is conducting her research on the role of Botswana in the liberation struggles of South Africa and Zimbabwe.  She hopes to take the experiences gained at Trent back with her to Botswana and become a professor.

Thai Phan
Environmental and Life Sciences Ph.D.
Home Country: Vietnam

Thai Phan opted to travel abroad to complete his Ph.D. at Trent because the facilities and faculty were too good to pass up.  He has always wanted to study in Canada, and thanks to the reputation of faculty member Dr. Doug Evans, Mr. Phan has been given the chance to research uranium contamination in hopes of tracking its potential to harm the environment.
