 English for Business Administration


The TBell English for Business Administration, developed by Trent-ESL faculty, is a course in English for Specific Academic Purposes, utilizing a “Content and Language Integrated Learning” framework. The content comes from themes related to business administration, and the language instruction encompasses four-skills with grammar and vocabulary. The English for Business Administration course is composed of six two-unit modules for a total of twelve units: Issues in Management, Human Resources, Financial Accounting, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Marketing. English for Business Administration leverages online media from sources that create multidisciplinary discourse (TED, BigThink etc.) and texts from reputable, high-quality business publications, such as The Economist.

 English for Computing and Information Systems

TBell's English for Computing and Information Systems is an innovative blended-language-learning course developed by Trent University faculty and focusing on English for Specific Academic Purposes. It utilizes a “Content and Language Integrated Learning” framework in which four-skills and vocabulary lessons are delivered through themes related to computer science. This course is composed of six units: Social Media; Memes; Design; Online Identity; Programming; and Artificial Intelligence. English for Computing and Information Systems leverages online media from sources that create multidisciplinary discourse (TED, BigThink etc.) and texts from reputable, high-quality publications, such as Academia, CBC, The Economist and Wired.

 T-Bell English for English Teacher Professional Development


The T-Bell Teacher Training course, developed by Trent-ESL faculty, also employs a “Content and Language Integrated Learning” framework. The content comes from themes related to ESL teaching, and the language instruction encompasses the four skills plus grammar and vocabulary. The Teacher Training course is composed of six modules: Evaluating Language Learners, Philosophy of Language Education, Receptive Skills: Reading and Listening, Productive Skills: Writing and Speaking, English for Academic Purposes, and Educational Technology. The Teacher Training course makes use of a range of online media from TED Talks on big-picture issues to presentations by ESL practitioners on specific topics and texts from reputable ESL magazines and journals. Praxis is a major focus throughout as participants are encourage to reflect on and develop their own ESL classroom practices.
